Fighting Dogs

Hello Lisa,

I would like to know what you recommend. I have been dating someone who has a boxer female that is nine years old. I have a Rhodesian Ridge back who is also a female and is seven. My dog is very sociable and very loving to all dogs big and small.

At first the dogs seemed to get along fine together on a couple of occasions. Once at my house and once at her house. But her dog seems very territorial and started fighting with my dog on about four occasions after that at her house.

We have kept them separate since then. Is there anything we can do to have these dogs get along without fighting. If you have any recommendations please let me know.

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

Before spending too much time at the boxer's house or yours, head out for nice walks together. Also the beach or park areas.

Let the dogs get used to each other outside the home, then slowly reintroduce at the home. If need be, put a leash on both dogs in the house to have control. You can let them drag, but the leash gives you a quicker response to stop any bad behavior.

Do not leave dogs alone until you have proofed them and are sure there is no conflict.

Hope this helps, Keep us posted,
Lisa
